Advanced Training for Single Site Robotic Surgery Features Dr. Huy Nguyen, DO in First Live Surgery Webcast

On November 29, Regional Medical Center of San Jose broadcast a live webcast of the surgical removal of a patient’s gallbladder using the da Vinci Surgical System for the purpose of training advanced single site robotic surgical techniques to doctors from throughout the country.

Leaders observe single site robotic surgery

A group of 24 key opinion leaders from several states gathered at the Seattle Science Foundation, in Seattle Washington to watch the webcast and hear a presentation by Regional surgeon Dr. Huy T. Nguyen, a world leader in single site robotic surgery. The surgeons learned how to adopt this technology into their busy general surgery practices.

The event, the first of its kind for single site robotic surgery, was a collaboration between Regional Medical Center, Advanced Surgical Associates, The Seattle Science Foundation and Intuitive Surgical, the makers of the da Vinci Robot.

Single site robotic surgery, which gained FDA approval in December of 2011, has been performed at Regional Medical Center by Dr. Huy T. Nguyen and his associates, Drs. Nang Nguyen and Thomas Hirai, at Advanced Surgical Associates.

Never before have this many surgeons gathered to learn how to successfully adopt the single-site robotic technology. This educational event is now archived for national review.
